Free, and open to anyone running a research service in Ireland. The joining link and calendar invite are sent to registered participants closer to the date.

Who this is for

Anyone who operates a research service in Ireland, national or domain-specific, including data repositories and archives, curated databases, compute and storage services, analysis platforms, workflow and interoperability services, and training or e-learning portals. You do not need to have completed the survey to attend, and you do not need any prior knowledge of EOSC.

Purpose

The workshop introduces the EOSC Ireland project alongside the service onboarding and federation concepts that matter to Irish research service providers. Most of the session is given over to structured discussion in breakout groups, to understand and evaluate the current readiness, diversity and structure of national services, and to identify the technical and integration supports providers would need to onboard to the future EOSC Ireland platform.

Put plainly: we are trying to work out what would have to be true before any provider is asked to integrate anything. The people who can answer that are the people in the room.

10:00 – 10:05	Sign-in and welcome: orientation, and links to the agenda and slides
10:05 – 10:25	EOSC Ireland in context: what EOSC and the EOSC Federation are; the project, partners and timeline; the planned services and platform; what onboarding and federation involve in practice; what the provider survey told us; the path forward (recorded)
10:25 – 10:30	Clarifications: questions on the presentation, shared document links, and how the discussion will run
10:30 – 10:35	Framing the breakouts: the questions each group will work through, and how groups are formed (by service type, six to eight per group)
10:35 – 11:00	Breakout discussions by service type: compute, data, tools, training, standards and metadata. What are the benefits of federating a service? What are the obstacles, concerns and drawbacks? What supports would you need in order to onboard?
11:00 – 11:10	Break
11:10 – 11:30	Breakouts continue: groups agree their three main takeaways
11:30 – 12:00	Reporting back and open discussion: three takeaways per group (two to three minutes each), then open discussion of provider needs and next steps

Only the 10:05–10:25 presentation is recorded. Breakout discussions are not recorded; notes are taken and reported back in aggregate.

What to bring

Nothing to prepare. It helps if you can speak to one service you run: roughly who uses it, how it is funded and staffed, and how users get access, though the breakouts are a discussion, not a form.
